New Home UIL Update

2nd Six Weeks

High School: We have students signed up for twenty of the twenty five events we plan to participate in.  The students have been excited about the opportunity to participate and to find success.  The Cross Examination Debate Teams have already begun to meet.  They are coached by Jill Crandall and DeAnna Carlisle.  The Current Issue and Events team is already keeping up with what is going on in our state, country, and around the world.  This will allow them to be well prepared for all UIL meets this year.  This team is coached by Kelly Gordon and Ty Payne.  This year, New Home High School will be participating in UIL Congressional Debate.  This is a great opportunity for our students to learn to look at both sides of a piece of mock legislation and to then debate the affirmative and negative sides to that bill or resolution.  This event has been well received by the students and they have already jumped in and started writing speeches.  The state qualifying event takes place on November 5th at the Region ESC 17 service center.  This event is coached by Kelly Gordon.  The three events mentioned all have an early start date.  The other teams will start meeting in November.

Middle School:  The middle school has had incredible interest in UIL Academics.  We have every event with more than enough students signed up for them.  We have started to have tryouts for each of those events.  Oral Reading teams have had auditions and have been picked and Modern Oratory teams have their material and have started their speeches.  Impromptu Speaking will begin mid October.  The Middle School UIL meet will be held in New Deal on Thursday, December 3rd.
